Apart from providing protection, it involves studying the nature of fire and investigating its cause and its related emergencies. It also involves research and development, production and application of fire suppression systems.
While talking about fire protection, it is very important to note that the safety and security is in the hand of the property owner, be it his own residence or a Company. The building construction should be done in accordance with the building code and it is the responsibility of building inspectors to check on compliance i.e. whether it is adhering to the building code or not. On completion of the construction, the maintenance of the building should be done following the current fire code as enforced by fire prevention officers from local fire department. If the building is a factory, then more stringent measures are needed to be taken. If the structure is a ship or an airline, the owner and operators are totally responsible for its maintenance, safety and security.
Specific Goals of Installing Fire Protection Systems:
a) To ensure continuity of operations on a public scale so that necessary services like transport or hospital or electricity are not hampered. There is a specific emergency call center number available 24/7, which can be contacted in a crisis situation.
b) Protection of public property by preventing the spread of fire over a wide area. However, in case of private property, this comes under the purview of insurance authorities.
c) Life safety to ensure minimum loss of lives.
Lets discuss about structural fire protection which includes buildings or offshore constructions or even ships.
· Passive fire protection - is a way of preventing fire by using integral, fire resistance building materials for wall or floors. This system is effective to limit the spread of fire thus keeping the damage within the fire compartment of origin.
· Active fire protection - can include manual or automatic fire detection and suppression systems like installing Fire Extinguisher with fire alarm or Fire Sprinkler system.
· Education - as already discussed, awareness among building owners and operators is most important. They should be having a thorough understanding of the building plan and construction and fire codes.
The success of fire protection systems depends on its planning and timely implementation and adequate training and knowledge to prevent serious disaster.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5842374

Home Security Systems

Security for your home is vitally important for a vast number of reasons. First and foremost most people will consider home security systems as critical for protecting their assets, investments and finances. Here the cameras and other security systems are put in place in order to ward off potential thieves both during the night when you and your family are sleeping, and while you are away on holiday or out at work. This then means that when someone tries to break in through your door they will set off alarms and be registered by your camera and that will mean that people are alerted to their presence and can come and intervene. At the same time even if they do break into your home, you will have footage of this taking place and that will mean that you are able to better aid the police in their investigation meaning that they are more likely to safely retrieve your items and get them back for you.
However home security systems are also very important for your own personal protection and for that of your family. It's not just thieves or vandals that threaten to break into your property, but also those who could be potentially aggressive or dangerous. Of course thieves themselves can often be dangerous if they think there is a chance of getting caught and arrested. At the same time though others can break into properties actually intending to cause harm and this is of course a serious danger and it is highly worth investing in something to keep these people out.
There are many aspects of your home security that you need think about. The first and most obvious aspect here is to look into your lock and there are lots of locks that provide particularly high amounts of protection. Digital locks for instance are very popular as they cannot be picked, but also because they allow for integration with other systems, and are very easy and practical open. At the same time both 'protector' locks and 'detector' locks are designed to be particularly hard to open without the correct key.
Many home security systems also include some form of CCTV and here you need to choose the best camera for you in terms of resolution and frame rate among other things. Digital CCTV is the best option as it allows you to record from multiple tracks and again allows for extra features and integration. IP CCTV means 'internet protocol CCTV' and that means that you can place the cameras anywhere and they will be attached wirelessly making them more versatile.
Alarm systems are also a good idea, and these can serve to alert others to an attempted security breach or to alert you and your family. Here you can choose to put the sensors just on doors and windows to prevent unauthorised entry, or you can tie it in to other sensors - such as using your CCTV to employ video analysis and motion detectors to go off only when the cameras detect something similar to a human presence.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6323288

Natural Disaster Survival Kits

Disaster can strike at any time and it can happen because of an act of nature, or by an accident, or even by a deliberate act of man. Being prepared for any disaster can be difficult, but it can also mean the difference between health and injury, minor injury or major injury, or even life or death. Being prepared is critical, and that also means having the best equipment around to deal with a sudden emergency situation. Whether the disaster is urban based, or from terrible weather, a good natural disaster survival kit can help individuals to survive through the worst situations.
There are two ways to go when putting together a disaster preparedness kit. One is to simply buy a kit that has already been put together by professionals. Buying an already assembled survival kit is the most normal way of going, but then the problem is that many people never bother to open the kit and familiarize themselves with the tools or materials that are inside - which defeats the entire purpose of having a kit to help prepare you for an emergency.
The other option is to put together your own homemade disaster kit. By gathering the materials yourself, you will already know how to use the resources in your kit. Even better, you can make sure that every possible contingency you can imagine from a natural disaster is covered by the materials you know will be in your kit. When preparing for any type of a natural disaster or survival situation, this is not a bad way to go.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/4313132

More Than Just a Burglar Alarm System

A lot of homeowners think twice about installing a home alarm system in their houses. Some think that it's just not worth the trouble while others believe that the cost is too much to bear. They just rely on a plain old fence to ward off any home invaders or any other potential threats they may encounter. A home security system is not just an alarm system, as it does not only alert you but will definitely save you and your family's lives.
No chance of invasion. The primary benefit of having home security system installed in your home is the intricate features it has in enveloping your entire home with an anti-burglary system. This means that no matter what angle a potential threat enters from, the security system will go off. Of course, this depends on what time of home security you get. These days, no one is ever safe. As much as you may want to think that your neighborhood is a secure area, an intruder will always find a way to get to your home. When you have a home security system, it also wards off anybody who has a common sense in recognizing the equipment you have. They will not even attempt to enter your home knowing that you have top notch home security.
The safety it provides. Most home security systems not only sound off alarms, but also alerts the company that provided you with it of a potential breach. If you aren't familiar with the process, once the alarm goes off, the system sets off a notification in which the security company will be alerted. You will be contacted to see if everything is all right and if it's not, law enforcement will be sent to check out your home. Now that's a security feature for you! Whether you are home or outside the city, you can be sure that your home will remain safe from any intruders.
Saving lives. Think about an instance that you have fallen asleep. You will not know, without home security, that an intruder is already in your home and presents himself as a danger to your family. You may never know what is happening until it is already too late. With a home security system, the lives of your loved ones as well as yours will be saved. By alerting the authorities of potential threat, a lot of harm can be avoided from happening.
You can never really put a price tag on the safety of your family. While you may think that the cost is too much, the value of your family is even greater than that of a substantial amount. You would be actually spending more if damage is done and theft happens in your home than it is to set up a home security system.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6239996

Tips for Home Security

The family must always feel safe and secure in their own homes. The feeling of comfort should not be lost because of the dangers and crimes happening outside these days. To ensure family protection, here are some home security tips that your family could do to assure preparedness and security in your home.
1.) Secure your door. The first entry would be outside your house. Provide a stainless steel screws to your door jam. Some passes through the sliding door. Install several screws to the upper track that will prevent the door from being opened easily.
2.) Secure your windows. Some cuts a hole and unlocks the door through it. Some uses eyebolt in corners. This prevents the window from being opened easily.
3.) Have a home security checklist. Check your area from time to time. Look at the plants and other things outside that burglars may hide being going through your house. Make sure they are properly cut. Check all the doors, windows, and possible areas of your place that can easily be opened without needing keys.
4.) Plan home security system. Nowadays, many houses set up an indoor and outdoor CCTV to ensure protection 24 hours. There are various kinds, and styles to choose from. Choose the all weather outdoor camera to ensure protection even during extreme temperatures. There are also some night vision cameras to provide quality videos in the evening. Some uses the wireless camera because it's more affordable. Before installing, make sure they will cover a wide area of your place. Whichever best fits your home, make sure to put the CCTV monitor in the place where you can best see what's happening.
Burglars these days plan very well and can make access to your house once given the chance. Making an organized plan and keeping yourselves updated of your house's physical condition makes you feel secured and comfortable at home 24 hours a day.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5964267

Advantages of Home Security Systems Automation

We've all seen the new age homes being built and advertised these days on television and in print. These are the homes that showcase the latest in high security innovation and devices to improve home security efforts.
Some home security systems employ green technology by controlling motorized blinds to conserve energy. Closing the blinds during periods of afternoon sun can save a lot of money on costly energy bills. Another advantage is protection for custom hardwood floors and furniture. Every type of feature that you can think of can be controlled from a front door main panel touch screen.
Installing a central main panel can also serve to declutter your home by saving on wall space. Essentially, you are eliminating the need for separate keypad panels for each feature. There is no longer a need for a wall full of control stations. Lighting, HVAC systems and audio and video capabilities are at the ready when you need them. These accompaniments will all be available to us someday, but right now they are reserved for the ones who can afford them. New age security isn't cheap and does come with a price tag.
If you decide to build your dream house, these features can all be programmed and timed to interact when you want them to and can even be controlled when you're away from your home. Homeowners love the fact that you can call your home from the comfort of their car or hotel room and set their systems to arm or disarm. Vacation homes heating or air-conditioning can be set to comfortable levels before arriving by calling the house and activating them.
In addition to the control features on home security systems, homeowners can also install convenient switches on the edge of closet and basement doors. When the door is opened the light automatically comes on. These types of switches do cost more than standard electrical switches, but the energy they save will make up for the installation cost in the long haul. Homeowners never even have to remember to shut the light off when they leave the room as well.
Although very convenient, these types of devices do require special wiring to be routed inside the walls before the drywall is installed. If you're not up to tackling that kind of project at the moment, there is a wireless system available that can control all the lighting in your home. Comfort, convenience and ambiance are all supported by a wireless lighting system. Adequately controlling your lighting is not only an energy saver, but is an entire management system for a smart home. Home security systems automation makes life easier and hassle free.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5994084

Protect Your Home With A Security Dog

Alarms are not the only way that you can protect your home. There are so many electronic security devices to choose from these days and one of them is the electronic dog bark security system. Of course alarms will work such as the security door alarm, and the security window alarm.

There are many security devices that are quite cheap and simple to install in your house. It has the ability to prevent burglars and helps you to have peace of mind.

When you install your alarm or electronic security bark dog, you must find a secure place in your home to put it so that it is not easily visible and it is able to work more efficiently.

The most important factor of keeping your home safe is to secure all the points of entry. This generally means that all the doors need to be solid and secured with strong hinges and locks. Locks must be resistant enough to avoid tampering. You should also consider having an extra deadbolt that you can put in the doors at night and make sure it is made from strong metal.

Additionally, you should make sure that all windows are secure and that the glass is made of strong material, possibly tough glass that is hard to break and be broken into. Be sure to have a lock for the window for extra security.

If your home has a garden outside, be sure that you have security lights installed. Burglars usually enter the home from the back more than the front of the house.

You should have high fences and other security measures that will prevent burglars from climbing over the fences. This may include fence hedges or spikes.

Consider getting a home security dog, which may be in the form of a real dog or an electronic security bark dog. The security system that is becoming very popular is the bark of an electronic dog. When the intruder comes close to the house, the electronic system barks like a dog and scares the burglar away. The burglar thinks that this is a real dog and if you add a "beware of dog," sign, it adds to their fear.

There are many intruders who really don't like dogs or want to mess with your dog. This is one of the most effective ways to keep these intruders out of your home. Having a regular dog is good, but did you know that burglars have ways to intimidate your dog and hurt them so that they can enter your home?

German shepherds are good home security dogs than any other dogs because of their large size and strength. They also have good instincts and are good guard dogs. However, an electronic home security dog is a better alternative and a very helpful option to ensure that the home is safe and secure. You don't have to deal with veterinarian bills or maintaining your dog. The electronic bark dog is economical and easy to deal with.

Remote Surveillance

I have owned my own business for the great majority of my life. When I didn't do that, I was a general manager and ran the business like it was my own with complete P&L responsibility. So I have the utmost respect for small business owners who are the backbone of the US economy. They are the risk takers, the job creators and the foundation of our free enterprise system.

I was a little surprised when I found out that 70 percent of all business losses are due to employee and customer theft. I knew it was high but I didn't think it was that high. Many businesses go to great lengths to cut down on those losses, usually with surveillance cameras. But how do business owners keep an eye on their businesses when they're not there and they can't be there 24/7.

There are two ways using remote surveillance through the Internet.

1. The first is using an IP camera. IP cameras plug directly into a computer or DVR and use an IP address to send video through a network using cat five cables so no extra hardware is required. IP cameras come with software that will support up to 16 cameras. And because they connect to a network you can login remotely and view or play back video. It is perhaps the cheapest way to keep an eye on your business when you can't be there. IP cameras are available for indoor or outdoor use and come either wired or wireless.

2. The second way is to get any kind of dome or bullet camera and place it in the location you want to watch. Then hook it up to either of four, eight or 16 channel embedded DVR. Up to 16 cameras can be supported. All functions for the DVR are contained on software encoded computer chips you can view in real to time and have a wide variety of features. But the best thing is to allow for remote Internet surveillance.

Start seeing what you may be missing when you can't be there with remote internet surveillance.

We have the lowest prices on the internet and will meet or beat any price on the internet for comparable products-our Low Price Guarantee! As security system technology advances so does the ability of criminals to barge in homes have also increased. People in the security industry are relentlessly developing new technologies to thwart criminals from continually threatening the lives of the innocent. There are countless stories today that people were saved from danger because of the efficiency of their installed security system at home.

Threat continues to rise even in the offices. There are security concerns that are not only physical in nature. Security sometimes can be utilised to protect information theft. It is not enough to have security around the premises because these thieves will work when the guard are not there. The security that we need today should have a 24 hour monitoring set up. This security system should be efficient both in the office and at home.

Video monitoring is a little more sophisticated of a method to protect property than traditional security systems. It provides the opportunity to record evidence in the event of a crime. It keeps a visual and sometimes audio record of events that occur and is able to give police vital information to catch a criminal. Video surveillance is the best eye witness to any crime and can be a very effective tool in protecting business investments.

Recently, some criminals have also utilized the security system to their advantage. These criminals have installed this security CCTV in ATMs so that they can monitor the activities of the people withdrawing cash. Their purpose of course is to capture the hidden PIN which the depositor uses for their security.

Audio surveillance is another useful tool to protect a business. It can guard against crimes happening at the work place. Sometimes, employees will sell drugs while at work. Video surveillance may not catch the transaction, whereas audio recordings can catch a conversation. If drug deals are happening in the workplace, the integrity of the business is being threatened. If the owner is not present (which is common when business must be conducted during the work week) audio monitoring as part of the security can help supervise during those times.

This surveillance camera can operate over the Ethernet which means this has the ability to run without the additional power supply. It is connected to the internet therefore you can monitor and check your security wherever you are. You can even check your security system over your mobile device connected wirelessly on the internet. There are some drawbacks however if this security system is connected online, it can be hacked. More than anything else, this security will definitely answer a lot of security loopholes that were left unanswered in the past.

Double Your Security With a Dog and Home Alarm System

Dogs are lovable companions that add a lot to people's lives. They become members of the family just like any other new addition, and they are steadfast in their loyalty and their presence. However, many people also feel a sense of security from having a dog in the house. This sense of security however, can be false or over exaggerated. Many people opt for a pet in place of home security system; however the best way to protect your home is to have both. Many people think that it's unnecessary to have both, but the reality is that having a home alarm system is much more effective than even the toughest or loudest dog in the neighborhood.

The fact of the matter is that using a dog as your first and last line of defense leaves a lot of responsibility on your pet, and many would say that this is an unrealistic expectation of your furry friend. The ways in which a dog is best equipped to help increase your safety is in the fact that many of them will bark at the sound of an intruder. However, dogs that bark when they hear someone entering your home may also bark when a snow plow goes by, when someone is walking down the street past your home, or even when there is a squirrel scurrying up the tree in your yard. This constant barking can lead to a lot of false alarms which eventually wear down owners into becoming desensitized to their animal's warnings. This means that your first reaction when your dog starts barking in the middle of the night is that a truck went by, or there's a raccoon outside when the reality may in fact be that someone is actually trying to enter your home. To this extent, using a dog for a live-in home security system becomes ineffectual as it is not accurate enough to signal a break in or a cause for alarm.

A home alarm system, however, will not only be able to differentiate between a home invasion and a passerby, but the system will also alert the local authorities at the first sign of an intrusion. This is something even the most heroic pets can't do. Having an alarm system means that you have a direct connection to emergency response teams and they will be on the way before you even get out of bed to see what the problem is. Having this kind of system means that you can program it specifically to be customized to your home. It can monitor all the entryways and even your property outside of your home. You can also set the alarms system to detect motion inside your home. Instead of choosing one over the other, home security system over a pet, you can maximize your security by having both. To this extent a dog can potentially scare off an intruder before they even make the attempt, and an alarm system will be your second line of defense in the case that they decide to go ahead anyway with the break in, and just distract your pet with a bone.

Home Security Is Perfect For Seniors

If you know a senior citizen, or are one yourself, then you are probably looking for ways to ensure that your house and health are safe. While many senior citizens are living healthy and active lifestyle, they are more at risk of home invasion because of the way that thieves and burglars work. In order to make sure that your retirement is as comfortable as possible, make sure that you are protecting yourself with a home alarm system. Or, if you are not yet a senior citizen, make sure that you consider purchasing one for the senior or seniors in your life.

With diminished physical capabilities in mind, it is important to make sure that seniors feel comfortable in asking for help. While most seniors are able to do most all of what they had been able to do pre-retirement, there are certain things that become harder. Maintaining a safe and secure home may be one of them. Many of the elderly welcome the opportunity to have an extra set of eyes and ears watching their home. If nothing else, it cannot hurt. It bears keeping in mind that common household accidents like falls are responsible for all kinds of misery in the lives of older folks. Eliminating unnecessary risk is an important part of growing older. With senior citizens the purchase and usage of a home security system is an important factor in eliminating this unnecessary risk.

Because we cannot predict the future it is important to plan for everything. In paying attention to the world around us we are actually making ourselves safer because of the way that we are noticing what is happening and taking action to remedy that situation. This proactive stance allows people to be in control of what actually happens in their lives and it is a good thing for improving quality of life. Purchasing a home alarm is a stance that makes sure that that someone is active and this is only a good thing. Ultimately, by planning we are projecting ourselves into the future, and, by extension able to live a more comfortable present.

For those seniors who are on the fence about the concept of a home security system, receiving one as a gift might be a nudge in the right direction. This could be the perfect gift for a birthday, a holiday, or just an everyday occasion. This is the perfect way to show that you care, and that you are concerned about the other person. While definitely a non-traditional gift, it could be one that ends up saving a life, and therefore a very important gift. With most people, they like their home security more and more with each passing day. Unlike many gifts that depreciate in value, this one will actually appreciate.

Ultimately, this is a good investment in the safety and security of someone that you love. The sooner that you act, the sooner that both you and they will be able to rest more securely at night.

DIY Home Security Solutions

Why take any risks when it comes to the safety of your home and family? It doesn't require vast sums of money or effort to keep burglars away from your home. And we are sure that you'd rather rest peacefully, knowing you've done what you can to protect the people and possessions in your life that are most precious to you. Therefore let's look at just some of the cost effective ways in which you can achieve your goal of home security:

Security Lights

Security lights may be used in residential, commercial, industrial settings. Some types of security lighting include floodlights. Most lights intended to be left on all night are fitted with low energy bulbs as these have good energy efficiency, therefore reducing the cost of running a light for such long periods.

Some other lights may be activated by sensors such as Passive Infrared Sensors; these sensors are known as PIR sensors, which turn on only when a person approaches. PIR activated lamps will usually be incandescent bulbs so that they can activate instantly; energy saving is less important as these type of lights will not be on all the time. PIR sensor activation can increase both the deterrent effect as the intruder becomes aware that they have been detected and the detection effect as a neighbour will be attracted to the sudden increase in light. Some PIR units can be set up to sound a chime in your home and even take photographs/ video of the area they have been set to cover, as well as turn on the light. Most modern units have a photocell so that they only activate when it is dark.

Security Cameras

Cameras for home security come in many forms, with the most popular being, the dummy camera which is a great visual deterrent to any thief viewing your property. They are very cost effective and extremely simple to fit with no running costs, a large variety of models are available covering internal, external use and even ones with mock infrared lights for night time filming.

For those on a larger budget digital security cameras may suit your needs, these cameras can be linked to your home TV to allow you to view areas of your property from the comfort and safety of your home, you can also record your CCTV filming on to a DVR for your records.

With recent advances in electronics you can now purchase models that combine flood light, camera, pir and speaker in the same unit for around the £100.00 this must be a very cost effective solution to adding peace of mind to any home.

Wireless Alarm Systems

In the past the cost of a burglar alarms was expensive and involved having a professional alarm company in your home running cables all over the house and charging you an annual maintenance fee.

With new fast developing wireless technology we are all now using on a daily basis, this has changed the home alarm system market dramatically, wireless alarm systems are now available which are wire free, easy to install, and suitable to take with you should you move property, these systems range from a simple alarm for your drive to tell you in advance that someone is coming to your door to a full multi zone system which can include out buildings and is simply set with a remote control unit as leave your property.

Five Reasons to Choose a Home Security System

When it comes to properly safeguarding a house, there are plenty of different steps that are crucial to take. Aside from the basics, including remembering the common sense steps towards shutting windows and doors and ensuring that lights are left on, plenty of other extra safeguards can be put into place. And for those homeowners and renters who are a bit more concerned about taking care of a household and a family, it makes sense to invest in something that can help out a bit more than just being sure that the doors are locked and all of the different windows are closed and how they should be to dissuade robbers for taking a shot at a particular property.

For those who are interested in a bit more home security, investing in a home security system is often the best bet for stepping up the functionality of the other steps that people tend to take when it comes to protecting a property. Anyone who is already concerned about handling a property should consider these five compelling reasons to upgrade one's protection from just personal steps to some extra assistance with a device designed to keep properties secure.

#1 - Long vacations. Or any vacations really, considering that most break-ins occur when a property is left vacant for even a couple of days. For those who spend a lot of time on the road due to work obligations, or anyone who is planning on going away for the holidays or a little while, it makes sense to spend a bit of extra cash on something that can promise extra protection while people are far away from their properties.

#2 - Personal health and safety. Sometimes, investing in a home alarm system is about a whole lot more than just keeping the bad guys out. For those who are sharing households with elderly relatives or anyone who requires extra medical assistance, knowing that the touch of a single button will result in medical response from the local EMTs or firefighters is the way to relax and have one's mind put more at ease. After all, there's more to safety than simply handling the troubles with robbers.

#3 - Ensuring that other threats don't take hold. Whether it's being positive that there is something loud enough to alert a household to troubles with smoke, fire, or carbon monoxide or simply feeling laid back enough during the chillier months that troubles with ovens and heaters won't cause trouble for one's health, there are a number of other functions that alarms have. And for those who invest in a bit of extra protection, knowing that a smoke detector is part of a home alarm system is a way to sleep easier at night with the whole family, even if a furnace happens to be old.

#4 - Knowing that there is back-up against robbers. This is the most conventional reason for investing in some kind of alarm, and it's definitely one of the most worthwhile. Because a loud noise is a huge deterrent for anyone who might be considering a full-on robbery of a property, even spending a bit of cash on ensuring that a system is in place that makes loud noises is a great way to keep robbers from succeeding. And considering the low costs of an entry-level system, there's no reason to get stressed out about handling these kinds of troubles on one's own.

#5 - Safeguarding home office spaces. Home security is different in a digital age, and with so many people housing their entire work spaces in their residences, it makes sense to spend extra on something that can prevent data theft or loss of hours or months of work that are preserved on hard drives or computers. For anyone who has spent big money on electronics, it makes the most sense to invest in a bit of extra protection in the kind of home security system that will ensure a lack of problems if someone manages to enter a home with an office space.

Stay Current on Home Security Providers in Your Area

Times are changing, companies are changing, prices are changing and people are changing - but the one thing that is not changing is the need to protect your family and home. Burglary is unfortunately a crime that is not going away. It is happening in cities all over the world from Kansas City, Kansas to Buenos Aires, Argentina. There are a few things you can do to protect your home and investing in a reliable security system from a reliable home security provider is the first step in the direction of protection.
You may be thinking that you already have a home alarm installed in your house. You bought the house knowing there was an alarm installed and haven't changed anything in the years you have lived there. You probably set the alarm at night and know there is a monitoring company out there looking over your alarm. Or maybe you set the alarm and think there is a monitoring company watching over your safety but really there is nobody on the other end to respond if you find yourself, your family and your house in danger.
Whether you have a monitoring company looking over your home security system or not, you should always double check the companies offering service in your area every few years to be sure you have the best possible company working with you. You need to know that you are in good hands with a company you can trust with your safety and to look after your valuable items in the event that your house and family becomes the victim of burglary.
When you try to stay current on home security providers in your area, you may find that there are a few new players on the field. You may notice there are more companies offering security in your area - whether you live in Kansas City or Buenos Aires - that you could work with to protect your house. It is not hard to tell if you are working with a reliable company by asking them a few simple questions.
First you should make sure that the home security company you select to help you protect your house has multiple response centers. The more response centers the company has, the less likely it is that you will find yourself in a situation where the response center is down due to power outages, weather or other unknown situations. You should also ask what type of response time they work in. A couple seconds could be the difference between the burglar getting away with your high definition television and family jewelry and the burglar getting caught trying to get out of your house.
To stay current on home security providers in your area, you can get online and do some research one day when you have a little extra time. These systems are free of wires and cables, making it less difficult to install than a standard system. A wireless alarm system can also cost less and is budget friendly.

When purchasing a wireless system be sure to take into consideration the exact size of your home, how many entrance points you have and are there a lot of windows? There is no need to buy extra component that can't be used and are a waste of money. You can start by purchasing one part at a time, and this is advantageous because you can add on to it in the future. The doors and windows are probably the most obvious place to start. You will want an alarm to go off if a burglar tries to break into the house. If you like how the system works, you can then decide on additional purchases to cover other areas of the house, yard or driveway.

Look at the installation instructions prior to purchase to see if they specify clearly what you will need. They should suggest the best areas in the rooms to place the control units and sensors. The manufacturers will provide some technical support and it is best to look into this also in case you have problems when installing the system. Likewise, reading the user guide ahead of time can save you difficulties later.

Another important decision is who do you want for dispatch, an alarm company or monitoring service? Either one is capable of transmitting the appropriate alert if needed. Check around your area and remember to inquire about fees that may be charged by your local emergency departments.

Security Guard

Prior to your security guard training, it's wise to first understand the job description, recommended tasks and skill requirements recommended to become a security guard.

The job description for a security guard will certainly vary according to the type of security that you are applying for, but normally it lines up with the following:

Guard, patrol, or monitor premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules.

A Security Guard is expected to distribute among visitors, patrons and employees to retain order and safeguard property. Remotely viewing your cameras over the internet is a great feature, especially when you can view the security cameras from PDA phones like with our H.264 Standalone DVRs from an iPhone, Android, BlackBerry or Windows Mobile phone. However, no one wants to watch their cameras all the time. Advanced functionality that is built in to some Standalone DVRs will allow you to receive alerts from your system when events occur. Advanced connectivity between your Standalone DVR and an existing alarm system will allow you to receive alerts, control cameras, control recording or even control lights from your Standalone DVR.
Some home security camera DVRs like our H.264 Standalone DVRs provide the ability to connect to NO (normally open) or NC (normally closed) circuits. Home alarm systems generally have a NO or NC circuit that can be used to trip external devices, so this connection can be attached to the Alarm inputs on a DVR. This output from an alarm system will provide a signal to the DVR when connected to tell it when the alarm has been tripped. Once connected, inside the menu, you can configure the input to begin recording on a specific camera, switch focus on a camera to full screen, control an alarm output on the DVR, move a PTZ style camera to a specified preset position or even send an email to a specified address with a picture from your security cameras.
Alarm sensors like PIR motion sensors, glass break detectors, magnetic door contacts, outdoor motion sensors and more can also be connected to the alarm inputs on the DVR so that you can have positive alerts configured even if you do not currently have a monitored alarm system. Simply connect the outputs of any alarm system style sensor to the alarm inputs on your system and you will be able to configure the alerts for recording or email alerts. Most cell phones can also receive SMS messages by sending an email to a specific email address that will be forwarded to your phone via text message.
The outputs on your standalone DVR also use a configurable NO or NC circuit which can be used for actuating relays that can be used to trigger motors, door locks, turn on lights, arm alarm systems, sound sirens and more. Virtually any type of light, buzzer, alarm, solenoid or motor can be controlled directly or indirectly through NO or NC alarm outputs from the standalone DVR. These outputs can then be controlled while away from home using a PC, allowing you further control of your home through your security camera system.
Receiving alerts from your home security camera system can also reduce the need to constantly view your cameras remotely. With alarm system alerts configured on your DVR system, you will know when something pertinent is occurring and then you will be able to connect in and see the video of what is happening when you need it. Using the full resources that your home security camera DVR system can offer helps you save time and reduce the amount of time that you spend watching nothing happen on your cameras.

Home Security Alarms Can Save Your Life

Making sure that your belongings and family are safe is the most important factor when purchasing a home. This is made possible by many companies that offer the service of installing security alarms to your home to protect you every second of every day. These alarms are made easy to operate and can be in action with a simple phone call to begin your installation.

There are multiple characteristics that a home security system is capable of performing. These systems can be simply for alerting you when a door has been open, but can also be put on your windows to prevent anyone from breaking in. The master system will let you know when an area of entrance has been opened in enough time to scare off a potential burglar and allow your family to gather to a safe area.

These systems generally come with lawn signs so that any person passing by the home is well aware that you are protected by a strict security system. This will lessen the risk of someone breaking in to your home by the warning stapled to your lawn.

These systems are made to alert help immediately after they have been set off. This is a reassuring situation because if someone has broken in to your home you may not have time to get to a phone and call for help. The system is enabled to choose your choice of help whether it is a police officer or the need of an ambulance.

The price of one of these systems is irrelevant when it comes to keeping your home safe from harm. Of course, no self respecting burglar would probe if it really comes from a huge dog or else he might end up wresting and get scratches from it.

If you are looking for a very versatile alarm system that provides an excellent form of protection for both homes and businesses, without having the annoying problems of owning a real dog, then a dog barking alarm is your best option.

Unlike a real dog, a dog barking alarm needs no training, feeding, regular visit to your vets and taking for a walk. In fact, it is as easy as plugging your TV and watching your favorite TV show. It also requires no maintenance. Plus, it's a user-friendly alarm system.

A barking dog alarm is an electronic device that features adjustable radar sensitivity. Just set it to your preferred radius length and you're all good to go. To be more specific, this can be adjusted from 0 to 20 meter range. It means that it can even detect movements in all parts of your home even in your stairs. But no worries since this feature can be adjusted! Plus, an electronic barking dog usually has radar eyes which can monitor and see motions even through thick walls, glasses and partitions.

This alarm system is omni-directional or can sense movements within 360 degree radius. And it will start detecting movement once you have turned it on. The barking noise is very realistic that your neighbor and intruders may assume that you really own a huge angry dog. Plus, the sound gets louder and fiercer as the intruder advances, and stops if it senses no movement at all. The volume can also be maximized if you really want to call the attention of your neighbor once someone is breaking into your home.

Sounds can be changed from an unfriendly barking dog to soothing sounds informing you of guest's arrivals. Others can be adjusted from chime to both alarm bell and barking dog sound.

A barking dog alarm also provides reliable 24 hour protection since it comes with a back up power supply in case of power shortage. That's why it is considered as a watchdog that never sleeps. This also requires no installation and can be placed anywhere you wanted or can be hidden behind the front door.

Once the barking dog alarm detects some movements and make a barking noise, any burglar will run off since the first thing they don't want is to call extra attention, especially in the form of an alarm. Of course, no self-respecting burglars want to get caught!

A barking dog alarm is a fantastic alarm system device that comes with remote control for convenience. It works great as it really creates a realistic barking sound that can be compared to an angry snarl of a huge dog. Plus, it can serve its purpose for a longer period of time and not just made from flimsy and cheap materials.

The Benefits of a Good Home Alarm System

Burglaries and break-ins are becoming more numerous and can be very traumatic.
Too often we don't believe in equipping ourselves with a security system until only after having suffered a burglary or a circumstance where we have lost property. Does it take as situation where one has to deal with the trauma and violation of privacy, not to mention the psychological after effects of being violated?
However, it is possible to avoid the worst, anticipating such problems (that is to say, the protection of one's property, person, family or business) is by using new scalable technologies for reliable protection, and that is installing a good house security system.
Indeed, the alarm system wired or wireless, video surveillance, or whatever the technology you use is a tool that is always proven effective, despite the fact that burglars have also evolved in sophistication in regards to the evolution of alarm and security technology.
The home burglar system is evolving to be more effective, easy to use and contributes to our comfort. New reliable security products are coming out every day that are essential to our everyday life.
In summary, being equipped with a burglar security system helps ensure living at home safely, discreetly and without constraints, ensuring family and property are always secure
alarm systems come in many different types, as it is intended for deterrence, to trigger at the slightest attempt of break-ins or fire.
Alarm systems can be equipped with multiple functions, designed with household convenience in mind.
An alarm system is classified as a product of convenience when operating systems are more sophisticated and come provided with buttons or special modern features.
Some of these conveniences include automatic door opening control systems and date, time displays, and even indoor temperature settings and displays. Another example would be alarm systems that can control certain internal or external electrical applications, including garage doors, gates and automatic sprinkler systems.
Many systems can also be remotely controlled from outside the home in order to ensure the highest security possible in all given situations.

Choosing A Vinyl Door for Your Garage

Image via Wikipedia

When it comes to your garage, only the best door will do. You have much to choose from in this area. Doors come in an array of materials, including wood, aluminum, fiberglass, steel and vinyl. All of these are good choices, but let us take a closer look at the vinyl door.

Vinyl doors may not be as eye-catching or as decorative as other types of doors such as wood doors, but they are durable and strong, which are two things you really need. If your door is used on a more or less regular basis and can be seen by people passing on the street, not only do you want it to look good but you want it to be strong and able to withstand everything from bad weather conditions to your son bumping into it with his bicycle.

Durability is the number one reason to purchase a vinyl door. This kind of material will stand the test of time as well. Often times these garage doors will come with a lifetime warranty. This is a good sign that the door is not likely to cause you a great deal of problems. While vinyl may be a more expensive choice than some of the others, it will prove more cost effective over the long haul.

Vinyl, as a means of entering and exiting a garage, is lightweight and will not fade. It is also very resistant to cracks and dents, which makes it a good bet for any residence. Once you start to do some browsing in stores in your area and online you will soon discover that vinyl apertures can be purchased in an array of colors and trims to suit any garage and home. If matching and the aesthetic look of something are important to you, then you cannot go wrong when it comes to the choice of vinyl!

The color on most vinyl doors is permanent, which means that you should not have to repaint it. You may have to give it a thorough cleaning once in awhile, but you should not have to go any further than that. The vinyl kinds of doors are made in both a manual form as well as a mechanized form. The fact that they are more lightweight than their steel or wood counterparts means that if you choose the mechanized kind, the parts will not wear as quickly. This means less maintenance will be required on your door! Some vinyl types are insulated and some are not. While the insulated ones will cost a few more dollars than the non-insulated ones, they will help to regulate your garage's temperature. This is favorable if you spend a fair amount of time working in there, or if you worry about temperature affecting the condition of your vehicle.

There is not a lot of maintenance required for vinyl doors. This is one of the reasons why they are so popular for so many homeowners. A routine inspection of the door's surface is recommended, as is lubricant and periodic replacement of parts. Beyond that, the vinyl door should give you no trouble whatsoever!

Why A High Security Lock Is So Important For Your Door

It's one thing to know that a front door isn't doing it's job unless it's fitted with a secure lock. It's a whole other to know what makes a secure. With so many locks on the market today, not all of them offer genuine high-security. Yet everyone thinks their locks are secure. How do you know what to look for? Find out in five minutes.
Long gone are the days when a hairpin or a bent coat-hanger could pick any lock. Incredibly, mortice locks - the ones requiring a large chunky key - are still around. For the most part modern locks have become more complicated to pick. Torpedo shaped tumbler pins are one way that modern locks thwart picking. Although by no means do all modern locks enjoy this security benefit. Nevertheless burglars have developed numerous other methods of overcoming a lock and it is these dangers as much as anything else that the best locks are now designed to defeat.
Advances in lock technology seem to be met with new ways of breaking front door locks. Bumping, drilling, or snapping of locking cylinders are now highly prevalent methods of forcing entry through a front door. They each require tools, and as such true high security locks have reach an impressive level of sophistication.
The best new high-security front door locks from leading companies feature mechanisms designed to thwart drilling and bumping. Firstly, hardened steel rods in the locking cylinder body and core itself increase resistance to drilling. Furthermore, hardened steel tumbler pins increase resistance to tampering and core extraction.
New high-security locking mechanisms have been developed in addition to those inside the core locking cylinder. Machined metal dead-bolts increase impact resistance but the really impressive modern locks feature hooks. When a door is locked, from two to four machined metal hooks are thrown into metal keeps in the door frame. These provide greatly increased structural resistance to brute force. In addition, they are not effected by successful tampering of the main locking cylinder. That's right folks. If your main lock is somehow overcome, hook locks provide a further line of defence in your front door.
Yet another high-security feature in modern front doors is the use of a dual-spindle in the locking mechanism. In reality more of an innovation than a technology, a dual spindle will allow the internal door handle to lock and unlock the door independently of a key, while from the outside a key is needed to open the door. For example, if you wanted to lock your door from the inside, but couldn't find your key, the internal door handle alone can be used to lock the door. From the outside the door is locked, and a key is then required to open it. It might seem like a small addition, but add this feature to a high security composite door and you've got a well-rounded door fit to be called high-security.

Improving Your Home Security

It use to be that only stores and businesses worried about security but now a days home owners have found the need to provide security for their homes. There are many ways you can protect your belongings.
A good fence is still a great way to keep intruders off your property. There are many types of fencing available and the most popular is probably the six foot high wooden fence. Adding a locking gate is important to make the entire perimeter less penetrable.
Although a fence may help to keep intruders off your property, adding a guard dog to your yard may be even more effective. Making sure you have a dog that is well trained in protecting your property is vital.
There are other ways to help improve your security and privacy around your property. These include investing in a home surveillance systems, adding motion detection systems and/or burglar alarms.
Investing in a home surveillance system is a good way to give yourself peace of mind when you are away from your home. The system includes cameras and a monitor. There are systems available that can be connected to your computer so you can check on your house even if you are in another city.
Motion detection systems use lights that will turn on when the sensor detects any type of movement. These lights should be placed on the exterior of your house and in your backyard if you have a large lot.
Burglar alarms are not that expensive any more and are a good deterrent especially if you have the alarm attached to a security company. Once the alarm is set off, the company can alert the local police or send their own security personnel out.
Another way to protect your home is to join a neighborhood watch program. The idea is that all the home owners get together in a neighborhood and devote some time to looking after each other. Contact your local police to find out how you can start one in your neighborhood.

5 Ideas For Creating the Ideal Home Security System

There is no single authorized system to follow when you want to set up a quality security plan for your home. Because of this fact, some people can get confused during the process. In general, there is no need to worry excessively. Here are 5 ideas to pick up when you want the ideal home security plan.
1. Get your research done in more places than your computer. There is a lot to learn about home security from reading materials online, but you're going to get just as much from talking to other people and seeing the devices in person. Your friends, relatives and neighbors can offer you the most advice you are going to get for free, so don't ignore what they have to say, even if you have some second thoughts later. Take notes and use this information later when you're making your final decision.
2. Don't go too heavy on the technology. Technology will play a vital role in the success of your home security system, but you shouldn't overdo it. Make sure everyone in the house can operate the equipment, so there aren't any questions when a real situation arises. At the same time, make sure your house has enough physical protection, as in the strength of your front and back door and in the ability of your windows to resist breaks.
3. Take the breaks where you can get them. If a company offers you a free home alarm system, it could be a break on one of the most expensive items you need, or it could just be a way to rope you into poor monitoring service. Take it case-by-case, evaluating each deal to figure out what the overall value of a deal will amount to. In some cases, you'll find yourself with a free alarm which you would have paid a great deal for had you bought it on its own, plus the best monitoring plan anyway. It is a no-brainer in this case.
4. Get some help from your pets. Pets become treasured members of the family over time and they can help you in security measures as well. If you have been thinking about getting one for your home, why not start now? Your children will love the companionship and you can teach them a lot just by having them taking care of the pets. This move is one of the most popular home security measures, as dogs will guard a home as if their life depended on it.
5. Take care of doable operations on your own. You might not realize it, but what you could get done with a screwdriver and a hammer & nails could turn a standard security system into the one that will impress even the security experts. It might just be adding longer screws to window latches or it could be posting a few signs in the window which warn prowlers of your alarm system and monitoring service.

Easy Ways To Reinforce Home Security

Being street smart is one requirement for people who live alone. But what does this really mean? Should you buy every new home security tool to continue to be safe? Of course not, but you also need to understand that as a single person, you are in charge of your defense and you may wish to invest in your self-preservation skills to keep away from becoming a target of an intruder assault. Here are some easy and inexpensive strategies to boost your protection against criminals...

1. Set up Hard-to-Pick Locks

Lock picking is an art that lots of thieves have mastered and you have to be aware of this. Investing on locks that won't get picked quickly means you have time to call the police or alert the neighbor if an intruder is in your backyard.

2. Exterior Lighting Fixtures

Yes it can be a drain on your electrical energy, but keeping your backyard lights open could dissuade criminals. Cover the lights with a shielding case if possible in order that the robber won't be able to easily break them. If you think about it, the electricity fee is very marginal if you make it a habit to turn off the garden lighting fixtures in the crack of dawn. What matters is you're relatively safer at nighttime if the backyard lighting fixtures are turned on. Intruders do not want to attract attention, and they normally hate being under bright light while they are trying to sneak in.

3. Avoid Flimsy Curtains

Blinds conceal and give protection to you, while flimsy curtains plainly advertise that you're always on your own inside the home. In addition, flimsy curtains could make it easy for any individual to look inside and have a look at your home security safeguards.

4. Have Espresso at Home with a Friend Occasionally

When you live on your own, you never know who may be observing your habits. Having a friend over in the afternoons for coffee might make it seem like you do not live on your own. And, whatever you do, never let people know you live alone. Dodge the question, or say something vague if anyone asks straight. In fact, you should be wary of any stranger who pointedly asks if you live by yourself.

5. Setting up Bells

Bells are most commonly used for religious and artistic reasons, but you can also use these noisy devices for your home security. Install the chimes inside the doorway instead of outside. Wind or a slight breeze could make the bells ring if they're set up outside the doorway, but if they're installed inside and they ring in the middle of the night, it might mean that an interloper is in the house.

6. Be a Great Neighbor

Being in great terms with your neighbors may save your valuable life. You don't need to be so attached to them that they stay on a daily basis but you must always avoid entering into fights with your neighbors considering the fact that they may be the only ones who could help you should you call for help. Don't irritate them by being boisterous all the time, so that when you do make some noise, they will instantly know something is wrong.

7. Duck Calls and Whistles

You know the cliche about sleeping with your gun beneath your cushion? Having a duck call or whistle under your pillow rather than a gun is way safer. If you wake up in the middle of the night sensing an interloper inside the house, you can use your whistle to alert the neighbors.

8. Learn Baton Combat

Having a baseball bat, a long baton, a metal cylinder or a any blunt weapon around to serve as your main self defense weapon may be suitable if you're disinclined to owning a handgun. But, if you're not well-acquainted with using your bat, it could quickly be grabbed from you, or worse, used against you.

Install Your Own Home Security System

Image via Wikipedia

When people think about home security system they think of a service that they're going to have to pay a large company to come out and install and on top of that pay a ridiculous monthly fee for home security. But this type of system is not your only option.

There are basically two types of security systems, a hardwire system and a wireless system. If you want a hardwire system like the good old days then you most likely will want to contact your local home security company or wait until they knock on your door. These hardwire home security systems are what are normally installed in stores and other businesses but may not be the best option for you. These systems are also much more expensive compared to the wireless system.

The wireless system is simple enough that you should be able to install it yourself in your home to bring an added measure of safety to your family. Our society isn't getting any better anytime quick so like your mother I'm sure always said, better safe than sorry. Every household should have some type of home security system.

As you begin your installation of your home security wireless system you first need to decide where you want to place the control panel. Most people place the panel in a hallway near the main entrance of the home. This will allow easy access as you enter and as you leave your home. Then you need to decide where to place your motion sensors. It's recommended to but your PIR movement sensors in high traffic areas in your home like near the front and back door, or the door leading to the garage. These should be your first priority when setting up your motion detectors. Then if you have more detectors place them in the main rooms and especially the ones that have easy access from the outside.

Next, you want to make sure your outside doors and maybe even some windows have contact sensors. There are two types of door contact sensors - delayed and immediate. You will probably want a delayed sensor at your main entrance which allows a short period of time for you to reach the control panel and disarm the home security system. On your other doors and entrances you may want an immediate contact sensor so the alarm will sound as soon as the contact is broken.

Security Gates and Grilles

More effective policing and community watch have done much to reduce burglaries and break ins in the Midlands but the fact is if you want a really safe home for your family, or secure business premises, you have to take care of things yourself by installing security gates and security grilles.

Adding security gates and security grilles to your windows can go a long way towards making your home and business impregnable to thieves and vandals. These highly effective items, also known as window bars, window grilles, and window security gates, form shields against intruders while allowing in light and air.

Bear in mind that most burglaries are opportunist acts done on the spur of the moment and a prowling burglar is always on the lookout for an easy mark in the form of a house or office without adequate security protection.

The fact is that buildings with no extra security measures are much more likely to be targeted by thieves. Statistics show that houses with simple security measures such as locks on windows and deadlocks on doors are ten times less likely to be burgled than those with none. Imagine, then, how much protection proper security gates and grilles can give you.

So when considering the best ways to protect your domestic and business premises, you need to focus on the main point of vulnerability - your doors and windows. In order to effectively block intruders from entering via your doors and windows, you need security gates and grilles.

Security gates and grilles are protective grills that you install behind your doors and windows. Manufactured from high-strength aluminium alloys to a special security design, security gates are either fixed or retractable. In your home they can be fitted to the door or window surround and be hidden behind curtains. A pelmet can then hide the top track. For shops, you can also display your merchandise around the clock and be sure it's well protected by the security grille on your shop windows.

These gates also provide security when the doors and windows are open for ventilation. Retractable gates can be quickly unlocked to allow people to exit in the case of an emergency such as a fire.

Another plus for security gates is that they're easy on the eye. You can get them in a range of designs including cross lattice and diamond shapes, and in a range of colours. Most are coated with ultra violet resistant polyester powder for durability and ease of cleaning. That's another great thing about these security gates - their easy to use and require almost no maintenance.

Other than making it almost impossible for burglars to get into your premises, adding security in the form of security gates also sends a message to the bad guys that you're serious about protecting your home, family and business. It's a great example of highly visible physical security. So what should you look for when shopping for security gates and grilles?

You can choose security gates and grills in various types depending on the level of protection you need.

Premium items with hardened steel rods in the profile of the grille and hardened steel links can withstand attacks from hacksaws or drills. Multi-point locking is another feature that offers enhanced security.

High security window grilles offer effective protection against intruders and are best used in together with other systems such as alarms and security cameras.

Medium security grills are effective against opportunist intruders and are suitable for lower risk areas. Again they should be used in conjunction with other types of security device.

When choosing security grilles for your home and business premises, be sure to get models with no external rivets. These make the gates easier to tamper with.

Security gates and retractable grills offer your home and commercial premises a high level of protection against intruders. These devices have been approved by the official police security initiative and so are recommended by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

So if you want an attractive barrier to keep intruders out and let in as much air and light as possible, look into installing retractable security gates and grilles into your home or business.

You'll find reputable vendors with full details of their products on their websites. And by dealing direct online, you can save a lot of money on your purchase.

Wired VS Wireless Home Security

This article will be extremely useful for people who are currently on search of a home security system. Being on this stage involves one serious question that usually is rather complicated to be answered - which one should you choose - wired or wireless home security system?

Keep reading and you will find out who wins in the competition - wired vs wireless home security system.

To begin with it is essential to underline that both systems have their advantages and disadvantages, so you should be ready for that you will not be able to find a perfect one no matter how hard you try.

(a) Wired Home Security Systems.

It is relatively easy to install this system. As a matter of fact, you can even do it on your own if you have some basic knowledge of electronic wiring. But of course, it is better to hire professionals to do this job.

As you understand, all components of this system, such as cameras, control panel, keyboard and so on, are connected via wires. That is the reason why it is better to install this system during some home improvement projects as this will help you to make cables less visible.

One of the greatest pluses of wired systems is that they are less prone to false alarms. Besides, it should be added that they involve minimum monitoring and maintenance.

(b) Wireless Home Security Systems.

The main dissimilarity and advantages of this system is its wireless work. It functions on radio waves. At the same time, this feature could be thought of as a minus because sometimes the device may react to some additional radio frequencies and consequently this may lead to false alarms.

To go into more details it should be mentioned that the battery must be checked on a regular basis in order to be certain that everything works as it should be.

As concerning the installation, there is a need to admit that it is really easy because cables are not incorporated.

What's more, you will be able to turn on or turn of the system via a small remote control.
So, it is up to you to decide who is a winner in a "battle" wired vs wireless home security. You should just evaluate the pros and cons of each and choose the one that is more suitable for your individual requirements

Apartment Safety - Going on Vacation

Image via Wikipedia
WHEN YOU GO ON VACATION

· Remember, unless there is a Cop reading this over your shoulder, YOU ARE NOT SAFE! The police do a pretty good job of SOLVING crimes. They cannot PREVENT crimes. The your safety, the safety of your family, and the protection of your property is YOUR responsibility.

· One of the times your home is most vulnerable is when it is left empty for an extended period of time. Darkened windows, mail or newspapers collecting and closed windows in hotter weather all advertise your absence to a potential burglar.

· The best protection for your apartment during your absence is to have a house sitter. A friend you trust staying at your house can take care of your pets and/or plants in addition to making sure the house is inhabited.

· Have a neighbor check on your apartment while you're away -- turning on lights, radios or TVs and opening and closing curtains will give your apartment the appearance of someone home.

· If you don't have a friend or neighbor to housesit or check your apartment while you're away -- perhaps even if you do -- you should keep not only lights but a TV or radio on a timer. If you're like me and have your TV on almost all the time you're home [NOTE: I don't watch it, it's just background noise.], the absence of the sound and that glowing light in the windows announces that you're not there.

· Make sure whoever is checking your apartment while you're away knows how to work your alarm system and who to call in case of a problem.

· Unless you have a house sitter, stop your mail and any newspaper or other delivery. Nothing announces an empty apartment better than a stack of newspapers or an overflowing mailbox. Ask a nearby neighbor to pick up any packages delivered while you're gone.

· If you have a garden or plants on your balcony, make sure someone is watering the plants regularly or put the plants where they can't be seen. Plants slowly dying due to lack of water may announce your absence.

· Check your lease. Many landlords require that you notify them if your apartment is going to be left empty for any period of time (this is so they can enter in case of emergency even if they can't reach you). Call EH&S Facility Safety office at 543-0465 for further information and signs.

<i>Flammable Liquids:</i> The quantity of flammable liquids in a single laboratory stored outside of an approved flammable liquids cabinet must not exceed 10 gallons. All 10 gallons, unless in use, must be stored in approved containers as indicated in the table below.

<i>Peroxide Forming Chemicals:</i> Peroxides may form in some organic compounds by autoxidation. Peroxides can cause serious accidents and, in some circumstances, become low power explosives that can be set off by shock, sparks or other forms of ignition. Some organic compounds form peroxides in a matter of months under the right circumstance. Be aware of organic compounds in your lab and remember to mark the expiration date on each container and review them periodically for disposal. Ether is an example of peroxide forming chemical.

<i>Pyrophoric Material:</i> Pyrophoric material is a material that will spontaneously ignite when it comes into contact with air. This material is only permitted in fire sprinkler protected laboratories in very small quantities (4 pounds aggregate per zone). Potassium metal is an example of a pyrophoric material. Extreme precaution is required when working with this type of material.

<i>Highly Toxic Material:</i> Materials classified as highly toxic are only permitted in small quantities in University buildings (Up to 10 pounds per zone). Highly toxic gas, like Arsine, is not allowed in any quantity without engineering controls and a special permit from the Seattle Fire Department.

<i>Incompatible Materials:</i> Incompatible materials are materials which, when in contact with each other, have the potential to react in a manner that generate heat, fumes, gases, or byproducts which are hazardous. For quantities of greater than 5 pounds or 1/2 gallon, separation by not less than 20 feet, approved cabinets, or a noncombustible partition is required. Smaller quantities should also be isolated whenever practical. A common violation is flammable liquids stored with oxidizers.

<i>Flammable Liquids and Basements:</i> The International Fire Code prohibits storage of flammable liquids in basements. However, there are two general exceptions as follows that apply to the University of Washington:

Existing grandfathered Class H Occupancy rooms (i.e., chemical stockrooms design specifically for bulk storage of flammable liquids). New Class H occupancy rooms for flammable liquids are not allowed in basements.

Your waste will be picked up in two to four weeks. Please plan ahead and be patient. Each waste item must be tracked from the point of generation to incineration, and we do the paperwork for hundreds of containers of waste every week. Chemicals that are corrosive, flammable, toxic, or explosive are by legal definition "hazardous". Some additional chemicals are handled as hazardous waste because they are carcinogenic, persistent in the environment, or are not allowed in the trash because they generate dusts or other hazard. Large volumes of waste or numbers of containers may take longer to collect due to the long time it takes to process the chemicals (it usually takes an hour to process one Chemical Collection Request) and the limited space on our trucks. Routine collection requests are faster because much of the paperwork is done already. If your waste is accumulated improperly (according the above guidelines), we will stop to discuss the problem with you if you are present. We will not pick up your waste until the problem has been corrected.

All new employees as well as anyone rusty on the basics of hazardous waste management should take this training. It covers hazardous waste definitions, labeling, storage, and disposal and includes a short quiz, all of which should take only ten to twenty minutes to complete. If you pass the quiz, you may request a certificate of completion for your training records at any job that you are working at.

All in One Hidden Digital Video Recorders

Image via Wikipedia
Should you need to use hidden digital video recorders, and you need to have more than one, then you definitely want to consider using a quad all-in-one system. These hidden digital video recorders are great because not only can you operate multiple cameras, you can control them all from one sleek, compact unit. The multiplexer and the recorder are combined, so it does not matter where you place it.

These wonderful hidden digital video recorders have no tapes to worry about; you can set it up and forget it until you want to review a video. There is no replacing worn out old tapes, no rewinding, no fuss, no muss, and that means no down time, and more importantly, no leaving your place unprotected while it is out for maintenance. Because it is a quad switcher, you can view all four cameras at the same time on one screen.

This system also allows you to set your hidden digital video recorders for continuous recording over a twenty-four hour period, or you can set it to be alarm activated, so that the cameras only switch on when an alarm is sounded. This feature will extend the over all recording time. Plus one of the most beautiful things about this system is that you can record and playback simultaneously. No need to stop recording just to access previously recorded material, and the handy search functions allow you to do frame-by-frame viewing, view the alarm events or you can use fast playback. And you can record as slow as one frame every ten seconds or a fast as fifteen frames per second.

Additional Features of a Home Security Alarm System

Image via Wikipedia
The most basic home security alarm systems include a control panel, a keypad, a siren, access monitors and, in the case of monitored systems, an off site control station. These basic features are adequate for simple home protection against burglars but some people may opt for more advanced home security alarm systems that incorporate more advanced features. Home security alarm systems may include a smoke detection system, glass break detectors, panic buttons and motion detectors.

When most people think of a home security alarm system, they think of a burglar alarm system. While it is true that the primary function of a home security alarm system is to protect your home and your possessions from burglars, this is not the only function of home security alarm systems. As the name home security alarm system implies, the system is devised to protect your home. This includes protecting your home from damage due to fires. For this reason, many people have a smoke detection system linked to their home security alarm system. This will sound an alarm and alert the control station if smoke is detected.

Glass break detectors are another advanced feature that some individuals like to include in their home security alarm system. These systems are able to identify the sound of glass breaking and will activate the home security alarm system when this sound is identified. This is helpful because most home security alarm systems include access monitors that determine when doors or windows or opened. This makes your home vulnerable to burglars who break a window rather than opening the window to access the home. Installing glass break detectors in your home security alarm system will minimize this problem.

Panic buttons are another optional feature in a home security alarm system. These are hand held devices that can be placed in strategic locations throughout the house. These panic buttons enable the homeowner to send and immediate message that they are in trouble to the monitoring center. This alarm can be sent silently or can be an audible siren that sounds throughout the house.

Another feature that many individuals elect to incorporate into their home security alarm system is a set of motion detectors. These motion detectors act as a second line of defense in the home security alarm system. If the burglar is able to enter your home without triggering the alarm, the motion detectors will sense that he has entered your home and will trip the alarm, thus sounding the siren and sending a message to the monitoring center if your system is monitored.

Your home security alarm system can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. Incorporating some of the more advanced features into your home security alarm system can provide your home with better protection. These home security alarm features can be very valuable in the case where a burglar knows how to work around the confines of a standard home security alarm system.

Accessories for Camera Surveillance

Image via Wikipedia
If you have camera surveillance to help protect your home, it is important to have the proper accessories to ensure that everything works in tip-top shape. When you have a good surveillance system, it is more than just cameras giving you a continuous feed and making recordings. There are plenty of other supplies that need to be bought in order to make your entire system more effective.

Camera surveillance is very important for those who are interested in making sure that their families and their property are safe. It can help you identify intruders and vandals, as well as help you know when your kids are neglected or abused by a sitter or a nanny. Surveillance of the nature is indispensable, and in order to make sure that it is always working as it should be, you should make sure that you have all of the necessary accessories to complement your camera system.

Illuminators for surveillance equipment can be very helpful. Because they reach different ranges, and come in a variety of sizes, it is important to understand your home’s security needs when preparing to purchase these products. Most illuminators sit atop the camera, or somewhere near the camera’s location, and offer up light so that the camera can better “see” what is in its range. While shadowy objects can be made out at night without illuminators, they are very helpful as they shed better light and can lead to being able to more positively identify intruders and would-be criminals.

Camera housings are very important, especially for outdoor surveillance equipment. This is because CCTV housing protect the cameras from weather that is too hot, cold, windy, or wet. Your equipment will last longer when proper shielded and help you better protect your investment in home security. Many housings come with fans for the summer and heaters for the winter.

Other surveillance accessories that will help you make sure that your system does not unexpectedly fail include things like long-running (9 or 10 hours of footage) video tapes and rechargeable battery packs. Also, you will need cables for plug and play that have different lengths in order to ensure that all parts are correctly connected in your system of surveillance.

(c) 2005 Copyright www.spyassociates.com. They are the ultimate home security product. Whether you live in a spacious estate, in a gated community, or have a house in the suburbs, they are designed fit your needs. Video cameras are an advanced addition for your home security system. The most basic security camera system would be a single camera connected directly to a monitor and a recorder to store the video.

Types:

There are several different types of security cameras. A few security cameras are black and white security cameras, color security cameras, wireless security cameras, night vision security cameras, and vandal resistant security cameras. Besides differing in function and design, security cameras also vary in price. Some security cameras also allow remote access, therefore allowing access to the monitors through an Internet connection.

Size & Resolution:

Video monitors come in a variety of sizes. It is best to buy a larger monitor because the smaller ones may be hard to view. CCTV monitors may have as many as 1000 lines of screen resolution as compared to 550 lines on ordinary televisions. This shows that security monitors do have their place in a home security system.

Advantages:

The advantages to owning a security camera in your home include:

· It has the ability to monitor people in your home.
· They can even save you money on your homeowner’s insurance.
· It’s easy for you to know who is in your home at all times with remote access.

Security:

CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) Security Systems is a fast growing segment of the security market. They are a relatively cheap addition home security systems. The security system consists of cctv security cameras, security monitors, sensors and cabling. Wireless cameras provide an extra measure of coverage since they can be positioned anywhere quickly. These are good trends in the security industry.

A Safe Apartment

Image via Wikipedia
There are special dangers involved with apartment living. This is because you live so close to many other people. Their actions can jeopardize your safety and so it’s very important for you to be aware of what you must do to safeguard yourself, your family and your possessions.

Fire Safety . . .

Fire is perhaps the greatest danger in apartment buildings. With so many units joined together, it doesn’t take long for fire to spread from one to another. The following guidelines are critical to your safety:

• Install smoke detectors in the kitchen, all bedrooms, the laundry area and hallways. You must test them every month and replace the batteries every 6 months. They won’t do you any good if they aren’t in working order.

• Keep fire extinguishers handy in the kitchen, laundry area and near your outside grill.

• Develop an escape plan. This plan should include two ways of exiting – in most cases, this will probably include the main door and either a window or door wall. If you live on a higher floor and don’t have access to a fire escape, purchase a rope ladder to use for exiting from windows or a balcony. Practice your escape plan regularly so each member of your family knows exactly what to do in case of fire.

• Never use an elevator during a fire.

• Never park in front of fire hydrants or in fire lanes and make sure your guests don’t either.

General Safety . . .

Fire isn’t the only danger in an apartment building. You must also be aware of hazards that can exist no matter where you live and take precautions to prevent them.

• Install a carbon monoxide detector.

• Install screen guards or window stops and doorstops on your patio door to protect your children from falling.

• Keep your apartment and building number near the telephone so your family or babysitter can access it in case of an emergency. Remember that memories can fail during emergencies.

• Make certain your apartment number is clearly marked on your door.

• Be sure that each person in your family knows how to dial 911.

Protecting from Intruders . . .

There are many people coming and going in an apartment complex. Criminals count on this anonymity. That makes it very important to get to know the other tenants. When you do, not only are you better able to identify someone who doesn’t belong, it also makes it more likely that tenants will look out for one another.

• Consider forming an “apartment watch”. This is similar to a neighborhood watch but confined to your apartment complex. If a group of tenants is on the alert for suspicious behavior, they can prevent many problems from arising.

• Install quality deadbolt locks on your door and place a wooden rod or steel brace on sliding doors. One caution about deadbolt locks – don’t purchase those that require a key. In an emergency, you won’t have time to search for the key.

• Make sure your landlord has installed good lighting in all stairways, hallways, and common areas like the laundry room.

• Make sure that if your building has a common entry, the entry door locks so that only tenants can enter. Never open that door for strangers.

If you follow these guidelines, practice good common sense, and are alert to what’s going on around you, your apartment will provide a safe home for you and your family.

A Look at Wireless Security Cameras

Image by Getty Images via @daylife
If you need to partially conceal your cameras from view, wireless security cameras are the way to go. Locations such as banks use a combination of wireless and wired, visible and hidden cameras to intimidate potential robbers, but continue photographing them even if they disable the wired cameras.

Las Vegas casinos do the same. Look around you the next time you enter a casino or a bank. There are cameras evident and these are for “publicity” purposes. That is, they are there to intimidate a potential robber or petty thief from doing anything, knowing that their actions are being recorded. The owners of these establishments want you to see these cameras and they want you to think twice about doing anything naughty in their places of business.

Then there are the hidden cameras. Almost always wireless so they can be placed anywhere, they photograph through small holes in the walls or ceilings, or from behind specially designed ordinary devices you’d expect to find in the location. Wireless security cameras are the ones that provide information to the police about who may have committed some crime after they disabled the visible systems.

Wireless cameras can be battery operated. That is, they are used to monitor the activities of people for a limited amount of time. Their advantage is that they can be placed in a variety of easily concealed positions, much more so than a camera that requires a wire to be connected to both its power source and a recording device.

Lately, these cameras have been built into clocks, children’s toys and other common household devices and have been nicknamed “nanny-cams.” They came into more popular use to catch babysitters and nanny’s who watch over precious youngsters who may not be talking yet. Horrible abuse sometimes occurs when unbalanced adults are left in charge of toddlers who can’t speak.

Concerned parents started using these devices to record the actions of the adult in charge while they were gone. Then the couple could play back the tapes and see what went on in their absence. Some of these tapes were so outrageously awful in what they captured on videotape that they led to prosecution of the adult offender and oftentimes ended up on national tabloid TV shows. Since then they have become a built-in, cleverly concealed device that’s quite often found in homes where young children are being watched by hired help.

A Look At Who Has A Hidden Security Camera And Why

Image by Amin Allen Tabrizi via Flickr
Many different types of organizations rely on hidden cameras to bolster their security. Hidden security cameras are appropriate for businesses with many employees and sensitive information or valuable items. They are also appropriate for governmental organizations and families, among other groups.

Many businesses opt for a combination of hidden cameras and visible cameras. The visible ones serve as a deterrent to would be thieves while the hidden ones can monitor the more sophisticated thieves in the event the visible ones are disabled. Banks, casinos and large businesses use a combination of the two types of security camera systems to achieve the maximum desired results.

When employees are stealing, the hidden camera system is the most successful at catching them in the act. Clever thieves will note the angle and ability of the visible cameras especially ones that pan back and forth around a room full of people. Cameras that do this leave blank spots in their field, several seconds perhaps where a particular area is not being photographed. A clever thief will time his nefarious activities to coincide with those blank spots to avoid detection. But if he doesn’t know where the camera is that’s watching him, if he can’t time out a blank spot in the coverage, then he’s more likely to get caught committing his dirty deed. That’s the purpose of the hidden camera.

The infamous “nanny-cam” has caught more than a few nasty nannies, who were ignoring the young children in their charge, or worse, abusing them. The tapes made the rounds of various news programs on TV and a new industry was born. Now there are wireless, battery operated cameras hidden in common household items like radios, and planters that an unsuspecting nanny would never find. As technology improves and electronic items get smaller and better, hidden security cameras will become more readily available than they are today.

A layman’s guide to home security

Image via Wikipedia
The world today has a plethora of advanced technological means of protecting their valuables be it jewelry, an expensive electronic gadget, piece of art, or antique that you have paid a fortune to make yours!

However, with all good things, there is something bad and security systems are no exceptions! This means technology too can fail!
Looking at the brighter side, like I said all your hard-earned valuables could be protected today without your having to worry 24/7 whether your favourite diamond ring or antique Chinese vase is no more yours when you get back home after a hard day at work!

However before you embark on a search for the best security system for your home, you need to do a reality check. Your best option is to ask your family and close friends- people you trust, about their security systems if they have one. Take a note of all the problems they may have had with their security systems since they installed them. This will help you to cross-question all the security firms that you visit and hence clear your doubts too!

Another important consideration is how much are you ready to shell out to secure your home, now I do not mean just buying the equipment required because the expenses do not end here. If you want a complete security system, you also have to consider paying the security firm that is going to monitor all the events while you are away!

Now to give you a lowdown on the options available to you,

One you can go in for a do it yourself kit, but again I suggest this option only if you are confident of setting up the system and of coarse also if you want to save on costs. However if you goof up, you are obviously going to be spending a lot more then you thought of saving in the first place!

Second, you can visit a security firm who will give you a customized system according to your requirements and budget, they also monitor all the events 24/7, and you will be charged for these daily services. For the best firm in the market and of coarse one in your area you can you can search on the internet or again ask friends and family.

To understand the technical jargon in layman terms you can read on.

In terms of location, you have:

Perimeter alarms
As the name suggests such alarms are usually used to stop the intruder at the boundaries of your property. They are fairly simple in design, why? The answer is simple; because while guarding a perimeter your aim is to stop the intruder outside and hence will want to sound an alarm if somebody crosses the boundary because if they are inside the your property your alarm was ineffective! Simple switch circuits are very effective for such purposes. Good examples of these are the open circuits and closed circuit alarms explained later on in the article.

Building alarms
Now if the intruder has managed to bypass or deactivate your perimeter alarm then you need to protect your house too meaning the inside of the building! Again, there are various ways to do so such as use body heat to detect the presence of somebody inside the building and sound an alarm on detection or vice versa i.e. radiate energy from a source and monitor its reflection, if interrupted the reflection changes and you can sound an alarm. If you want an extensive and detailed alarm system, you can put up a surveillance system with hidden cameras, which of course will cost you a fortune but it is worth it if you have a fortune to protect!

In terms of circuits, you have:

Open circuit
When the intruder completes the circuit by his action of intrusion, he triggers the alarm. For example, a button embedded into the doorway or magnetic switch embedded into a window will trigger an alarm if the door or window is opened.

Closed circuit
In such a system, the electric circuit is complete when the door or window is closed and hence if an intruder opens the door the current path is broken triggering an alarm. Now both these systems- open and closed circuit are very naïve in their designs and hence have to be controlled using a control box so that the intruder cannot deactivate the alarm easily!

In terms energy:

Active Systems
This means you have a source that emits either radio waves or ultra sonic rays into the room and records the reflection of these rays when they travel back; now if somebody comes in the range of these rays their reflection pattern changes and this can be used to trigger an alarm.

Passive Systems
These systems use a detector/sensor to sense a rapid change in infrared energy in the room. What this means is, that when a human enters the field of the senor there is a rapid increase in the level of heat, which is sensed by the infrared sensor; this in turn sends a message to a controller, which in turn sounds a combination of alarms set by the user.
Therefore, if you are looking for an entire home and property security you can go to a professional who will do the installation as well as monitor your home or office for you. Otherwise, you can opt for a do it yourself kit advisable for those who are technologically inclined or at least those who can follow instructions!

Finally buying a safe to protect your valuables from fire or theft is an essential part of sound home and business security. With a wide range of safes available there is something to suit everyone.

A Guide to Pepper Spray Laws

Image via Wikipedia
When you have small children and teenagers, a hidden camera or two about the house can be very useful. When children are small, it helps to ensure that they are protected from babysitters and nannies that might try to abuse them. As your children grow into teenagers, the hidden camera takes on a new mission: to make sure that they are obeying the rules, even when you are away from home.

Many sitters and nannies feel that it is okay to abuse children to get them to behave. Others simply ignore small children, taking your money but not really taking care of the children. Both of these scenarios are unacceptable. But how can you determine what goes on in your home while you are out? The simple solution is to have a hidden camera (or two or three) secreted about the house. Then you can see how the sitter treats your children. If it is bad, the hidden camera can serve as evidence if you wish to press charges or recover damages.
Other parents worry about leaving their teenagers home by themselves. Will they have parties? Get into the liquor cabinet? Again, a hidden camera can help you keep tabs on what your kids do when you leave home. If you let them know that you do have cameras in the house, but do not tell them where, it is likely that they will be on better behavior while you are gone.

And that is the beauty of the hidden camera. These devices are cleverly disguised as regular, normally functioning household items. Clocks, wall paintings, smoke detectors, and even can openers can all contain cameras while perfectly performing their regular functions. There are even clock radio alarms that will still wake you up (and that you can hit snooze on) and still record what is going on in the room. Additionally, there are plenty of listening devices that can also be disguised as regular items, and that can supplement the visuals you receive from the cameras. You can know exactly what is going on in your home when you have a hidden camera.

A dog can be your best friend when it comes to home security

Image via Wikipedia
Burglar alarms are not the be-all and end-all of home security. There are plenty of other things you can install in your home that will help to stop a burglar from gaining entry – and many of them are very simple and inexpensive.

The key is to secure the possible points of entry. This means that doors should be made of strong, solid material (definitely not plastic or glass), be properly secured to their hinges and have tamper-resistant locks. Ideally, you should have an extra deadbolt that you put on at night, made from very strong metal.

Windows should be made from toughened glass, preferably double-glazed, so that they are almost impossible to break. Although window locks are relatively uncommon, they help greatly with security, and you should consider installing them. If your house has windows in a position where they can be easily and discreetly accessed from the street, such as basement windows, you should consider putting metal bars on them.

It is also important for your garden to be secure, as far more burglars enter through the back of your house than the front. This means that your fences should be high and have some kind of anti-climbing measures (spikes or anti-climb paint can work well). If you don’t like fences, get big hedges instead.

Another thing to consider is getting a dog – surprisingly effective against burglars, who don’t generally want to mess with dogs if they can avoid it. For this strategy to be more effective, put up a ‘beware of the dog’ sign. Smaller dogs are not so great for this because they are not generally scary – something like a big German Shepherd works best, not only because of their size, but because of their strong guard instincts that cause them to be hostile to strangers.

A Common Question: "Should I Use Mace or Pepper Spray?"

Image via Wikipedia
Pepper spray is a generic term for all self-defense sprays that contain oleoresin capsicum, a carrier, and a propellant. Oleoresin capsicum is the active ingredient in pepper spray, harvested or derived from cayenne peppers or other peppers. Its effects are physically incapacitating rather than painfully irritating; this makes it ideal for self-defense sprays that are intended for use on assailants who are immune to pain (psychotics, those under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or just “tough guys”).

Tear gas, on the other hand, is commonly made of one of two chemical compounds: CS (orthochlorobenzalmalononitrile) or CN (choroacetophenone). These compounds, when sprayed into the face of an assailant, work to irritate eyes, skin, and respiratory system. They work on the pain principle, and so are not effective against those who are impervious to pain.

Mace is a brand name that used to offer only tear gas. Now, Mace offers several different types of self-defense spray, including:

Mace Triple Action is pepper spray, tear gas, and Ultra-Violet dye. The pepper spray physically incapacitates the assailant by forcing his eyes shut and tightening his bronchial tubes, making it impossible for him to see and very difficult for him to breathe. The tear gas irritates the bronchial tubes, causing him to cough. The UV dye brands the assailant with a purple mess, making him easily identifiable.

Pepper Mace uses a 10-percent oleoresin capsicum solution and UV dye. The OC solution is a particularly strong one; it doesn’t kick in as quickly as a smaller concentration like 1-5 percent, but the effects are longer, sometimes up to 45 minutes.

Pepper foam is the same as pepper Mace, but it sprays as foam rather than a liquid.

So as you can see, it is not a question of mace vs. pepper spray, since Mace is simply a brand name. The question is really one of Tear Gas vs. Pepper Spray. The winner? Pepper spray, hands down.

Reasons To Install Security Cameras At Your Home Or Business

Image via Wikipedia
In today’s world, an individual or business owner needs to take the necessary steps to protect themselves, their family and their investments. While many opt for a full security system, which is always a good idea, the addition of security cameras can help to record any/all activities that take place in and around a specific area. Security cameras are not only designed for outside use, but are also commonly used indoors.

When it comes to reasons why you should consider installing security cameras, listed below are five of the best:

Security cameras provide constant monitoring of your home and/or business even when you are not there. Let’s face it. There is no way that you can be two places at once. You are either at home or at work, which is why security cameras can be your eyes even when you cannot be there in person.

If installed at your home, security cameras can help you to see who is outside your front door or on your property before opening the door or venturing outside. This is a very important safety precaution for anyone, whether you live out in the most rural of settings or in the city. It’s always a good idea to see who is at your door before you open it and if you suspect someone is on your property, security cameras can help to either confirm or eliminate that concern.

If a theft should occur, the use of security cameras can provide valuable evidence to help convict the perpetrator and possibly even recover your stolen item(s). This is true of both home and business burglaries. In addition, a home or business that is monitored with a security camera may carry more affordable insurance because it is less desirable for criminals who know they are being monitored. For the exact policy guidelines, check with your local insurance agent.

Security cameras can help parents to keep an eye on their babysitter. When you leave your child at home and entrust them with a babysitter, it never hurts to add extra peace of mind in knowing that your child is properly cared for during those moments when you are not at home with them yourself.

If used in a place of business, security cameras can help employers and store owners to keep a close eye on their employees. Monitoring of employee actions can help in a variety of situations, including possible employee theft, customer complaints and other matters where video playback may be beneficial.
